From the point of view BSW are not left alone in safety precautions for Christmas markets and other events. “Defending against terrorism is the responsibility of the state – but in terms of implementation, the municipality has to bear the costs. This is neither legally clean nor politically responsible,” explained Saxon BSW politician Bernd Rudolph. Therefore, the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance requested state funding for this purpose.
According to the legal situation, responsibility for security measures lies with the municipality. As a market and festival organizer, you must create and implement security concepts. “Whoever demands security must also help pay for it. State governments must now take responsibility – not just in words, but also in a concrete budget approach,” stressed Rudolph. BSW also demands that the federal government contribute to the costs of lockdown systems, digital surveillance technology and emergency logistics.
