Paramedics were quickly in the stands and play was stopped for seven minutes at 10:33 p.m. The referee allowed both players to move freely around the pitch while the man in the stands was looked after. Finally he was taken out of the Inalpi Arena and greeted with loud applause from the audience.

Two elderly spectators died at the facility on Monday. A 70-year-old man collapsed while queuing in front of the fan village, and a 78-year-old man collapsed in the stands immediately before Musetti’s meeting against American Taylor Fritz (28).

Both were taken to Molinette Hospital, not far away, where they died despite quick intervention from paramedics. Both times a heart attack was said to be the cause.

It is still unclear what the condition of the patient who collapsed during the match between Musetti and de Minaur was. According to Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, the elderly man was said to have been unconscious for five minutes. The game continues.
