Temperatures dropped to -3°C: the winter cold hit Essonne, turning the snow and ice yellow

The cold of winter is starting to feel. Like the entire Île-de-France, except Paris, Essonne was placed on a snow ice yellow alert for part of the day. This Friday morning, roads south of the department were covered in a layer of snow and ice.

“Teams are fully deployed to secure the axis in question. Stay alert, adjust your speed and increase the safe distance,” recalled François Durovray in a post published on Facebook.

According to Météo France forecasts, negative temperatures will return tonight throughout the region. Freezing fog is expected around the towns of Pussay and Saint-Escobille. In these regions, the mercury temperature should not exceed -3°C. The entire department will also be put on yellow alert again on Saturday morning and then again in the evening.

This cold episode marked the start of the winter service period, during which 90 department agents divided into three territorial units were deployed to ensure the safety of road users. Since November 17, supervisors, patrol officers, and works agents have been responsible for cross-referencing local weather forecasts, data from highway stations, and field observations in anticipation of road salting and snow removal operations.
