An impressive 80 years have passed since the first story “Pippi Longstocking” was published – although the popular character in films and series will remain nine years old forever. To commemorate the anniversary, we will tell you ten (curious) facts about the world of Pippilotta.

Fact 1: This is where the idea for the character “Pippi Longstocking” came from

On November 26, 1945, the first book about the story of little Pippi Longstocking was published in Sweden. In Germany it took four years longer before children could immerse themselves in the colorful world of the little rebel. However – and this brings us to the first fact – the anniversary of the manuscript has been celebrated on May 21, 2024.

The reason: The story of Pippi Longstocking goes back to Astrid Lindgren’s daughter, Karin Nymann (91).who in 1941 asked his mother for a story about a girl named “Pippi Longstocking”. Three years later he gave her the manuscript for her tenth birthday – on May 21, 1944.

Fact 2: Pippi Longstocking’s full name is…

Although this lively character became known as Pippi Longstocking, she actually had much more, and most importantly, quite a complicated name. Well, do you remember?

So: The main characters of popular children’s stories are called by their full names Princess Pippilotta Viktualia Rollgardina Peppermint Ephraim Longstocking.
