Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is willing to talk to US President Donald Trump, despite serious allegations and a deadly US operation against suspected drug traffickers.
Venezuelan Head of State Nicolás Maduro says he is ready to talk to US President Donald Trump amid tensions with the US. “This country will continue to live in peace and in America anyone who wants to talk to Venezuela can do it face to face without any problem,” Maduro said on Venezuelan television Monday (local time). However, “Christians in Venezuela must not be allowed to be bombed and massacred.”
Trump has previously confirmed his willingness to talk to Venezuela. Trump said he would speak to Maduro in due course.
Trump also did not rule out an attack on Mexico
In the war on drugs, Trump has not ruled out attacking neighboring Mexico. “Would I launch an attack on Mexico to stop drugs? That doesn’t matter to me,” Trump said while answering questions from reporters at the White House on Monday. There are “some major problems” with drug trafficking in Mexico and its capital.
83 people died in alleged resistance to drug smugglers
Since September, US forces have repeatedly attacked vessels belonging to drug traffickers in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific. At least 83 people have died so far.
The United States accuses Venezuela of encouraging drug smuggling into America and thereby endangering the security of the United States and its citizens. However, Venezuela’s left-wing nationalist President, Maduro, is suspicious of US plans to overthrow him. The US government does not view Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela.
