The absence of the United States from COP30: a blow or an opportunity for the climate?


COP30 took place in Brazil, without the presence of the United States, the world’s largest oil producer and second largest emitter of greenhouse gases. An unprecedented event in the last 30 years, linked to the climate-skeptical policies of Donald Trump, which also encouraged other countries to abandon their climate goals and revive fossil fuels. Therefore, the absence of high-level American representatives was seen as an opportunity to move forward, without hindrance from the United States.
