‘The beast within me’, suffering as a profession | Television series

If, as he once stated, Bruce Springsteen was born to run, what is clear is that Claire Danes, the protagonist of The beast in me (Netflix), he was born to suffer as he had already done in Unforgettable homeland. The Beast is a remarkable series in which Danes is accompanied by Matthew Rhys, who plays a new millionaire neighbor who wants to privatize much of the forest surrounding the villas where they live. After all, he is a financial speculator and real estate tycoon who wishes to surpass his speculator and real estate tycoon father. Greed, as we know, is irredeemable.

It is curious that Netflix, a platform of Californian origin, in these times of that reactionary thief that is Donald Trump in the White House, produces series in which the traditional values of right-thinking people are subverted, even if our payments also abound with characters like Isabel Díaz Ayuso, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez or Carlos Mazón, who have long since left behind any type of value except those that serve their own survival.

Our protagonist, a divorced and lesbian writer who was successful with her first book and who, after the death of her son, is unable to overcome the mental block in which she is immersed and, therefore, drowned in major debts, maintains a strange and unbalanced relationship with her neighbor. Many think that he killed his first wife, and she also blames him for the disappearance of the person she considered responsible for the death of her son because, apparently, the real estate tycoon believes that murder should be considered one of the fine arts.

And in this murky atmosphere of perplexity and suspicion, our suffering author agrees to write the biography of the evil tycoon, because she thinks that this will allow her to verify whether, as she believes, he is a cold and ruthless murderer. The actress herself declared in her time about her characters in The beast in me: “They’re really excited about each other, fighting for power but also genuinely enjoying each other’s company. They’re like soulmates and adversaries at the same time, and sex isn’t involved. It’s been interesting.”

Those of us who appreciate the work of artists can’t wait to see the versatility of Claire Danes and that someone will offer her to perform a comedy at any time.
