NOccasionally in the afternoon Michael stands behind the cash register at Broad Branch Market. Michael, I think, was a young man, although his age couldn’t be determined, and he usually just asked if I wanted a bag for the eight avocados I bought, and I usually said, “Sure.” But he also happened to ask me the following question, and I have to admit I cringed a little the first time: “Have you watched any fancy movies or TV shows lately?” I actually never watch TV shows, only occasionally Stephen Colbert’s Late Show, but only in excerpts carefully selected and ideologically manipulated by Instagram. So I have to say no.
