A special day for Chancellor Friedrich Merz!
Today the head of government, who doesn’t really mind his birthday, turns 70 years old. A longer breakfast with his wife Charlotte (64), a large reception for the CDU/CSU faction (300 guests, flying buffet) and dinner with children and grandchildren in the evening are planned. And vice versa? A completely normal work day.
Merz: “The great advantage of getting older is that you become more relaxed and learn to separate important and unimportant things. I am grateful that I am fit and healthy and can concentrate fully on my duties as Federal Chancellor. That is how I will do it on November 11, which is a normal working day for me.”

Healthy and fit – those are the key words. Merz herself seems to feel youthful, and she doesn’t look 70 either, she’s trim and trim, and despite long days at the office, she often looks like she’s just returned from holiday – her skin is great, no tanning beds.

The Chancellor himself was also tempted by the idea that this could run in the family. He said on the Radio Bremen talk show that he “seems to have good genes” because his parents are still alive in old age (his mother is 97, his father is 101). Merz joked: “You can’t expect a biological solution from me.”

But Merz does a lot for his fitness. He has a standing desk in his office so he doesn’t have to sit all the time, as he told BILD. He also plays sports (swimming, cycling, running).
The Chancellor abstains from drinking alcohol
And according to BILD information, Merz has completely stopped doing one thing since becoming chancellor. Merz no longer drinks alcohol, at most he only sips beer with zero percent. Dan: He places great importance on the ability to sleep and read occasionally. So: consciously switch off and relax to recharge your batteries.
Research Minister Dorothee Bär (47) has other ideas about the secret behind the Chancellor’s eternal youth. He told BILD: “Friedrich Merz was a paragon of energy and commitment – I am convinced that his vitality lay in never stopping, working and fighting for his beliefs in a disciplined way.”
