The chilling image of Fred Dewilde, “the delayed victim of November 13,” was told by his widow

On the refrigerator there are photos of happiness, Marianne, Fred, family, dogs, cats over the years… But there is nothing after May 2024. Fred Dewilde committed suicide last year, “a delayed victim of November 13th”, as Marianne Mazas, his widow, tells it.

The reason is, Fred, his “giant, 1.93 m”, was in the Bataclan pit during the 2015 terrorist attack which killed 130 people. He emerged physically unscathed but with “silent wounds”, described his partner, who met him in 2019 and loved him with his “baggage”. He “refuses to think that his suicide was a victory for the terrorists” because the eight and a half years he lived afterward were his “bonus life, as he said”.
