President Emmanuel Macron participated in the 107th anniversary ceremonye commemoration of the 1918 Armistice, Tuesday 11 November in Paris. The Head of State arrived at around 10:15 at the Hôtel des Invalides to unveil a plaque commemorating the Alsatians and Mosellans who died during the Second World War and those who were forcibly incorporated.
He will then go to the statue of Georges Clemenceau on the Champs-Elysées to lay a wreath and hear the bells ring, before a minute’s silence is observed. Then Mr Macron will go to the Arc de Triomphe in front of the tomb of the Unknown Soldier to lay a wreath and relight the fire, after reviewing the troops.
An urn topped with a cornflower, containing soil taken from 16 of the 139 UNESCO World Heritage-listed First World War burial and memorial sites, will be placed symbolically at the grave of the Unknown Soldier.
The laying of the first wreath was carried out, especially by the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo.
