The fire of two cars in a garage in Colmenar Viejo forces 150 people to evacuate | Madrid News

Up to ten firefighters from the Community of Madrid had to go early this Wednesday to a garage in the town of Colmenar Viejo to put out a fire that forced the evacuation of 150 people, six of whom had to be treated by SUMMA 112, as reported by the 112 Emergency Service of the Community of Madrid.

“When the firefighters of the Community of Madrid arrived at the scene of the accident, they made an effort to try to limit the fire to the two cars already affected and to prevent it from spreading to the rest of the vehicles that were on the -2 floor of the garage, which they managed to do,” said Javier Chivite, spokesperson for Emergency 112 of the Community of Madrid.

The garage, located at 6 Talgo Street, serves seven buildings with 16 homes each, so all 112 had to be evacuated. As a result, “around 150 people waited on the street, many of them in vehicles, inside the vehicles themselves that were outside the garage and in emergency vehicles to avoid the intense cold that was there overnight,” he explained.

After extinguishing the flames and ascertaining that “there was no type of smoke concentration and that there was no danger” in the homes, the residents were moved “little by little” with the help of the firefighters, according to Chivite.

Five units from the Medical Emergency Service of the Community of Madrid also intervened on site, treating six people: “five for mild poisoning due to smoke inhalation and a sixth for a decompensation of the glycemic index”, explained the Emergency spokesperson, who noted that everyone was discharged on the spot.

Fire in a landfill in San Martín de la Vega

Another fire that broke out this morning in a landfill in the Madrid town of San Martín de la Vega has already burned several vehicles and risks spreading to other nearby warehouses in the complex, as reported by Emergencies 112 of the Community of Madrid.

The flames originated around 7.15am in a scrapyard located at the intersection of Cobre and Plomo streets, and up to 15 firefighters from the Community of Madrid went to the scene, continuing to work intensively on site.

In the surrounding area a large column of smoke is observed, which however is vertical and does not affect inhabited areas. The Civil Guard and Local Police evicted several industries located on the same land and confined the rest of the workers to the industrial area as a preventive measure.

Members of SUMMA 112 were also sent to the scene as a preventative measure, although they did not have to intervene and no injuries were reported.
