“Nature is not a place to visit, Nature is our home.” With this reflection, typical of the American poet Gary Snyder, the Forestry Carabinieri organizes an environmental education meeting at the Lyric Theater of Magenta.
The event is the National Festival of Trees which, like every year since 2013, reminds us again how important nature is to the Planet and to us and does so by celebrating the excellence of the “ecosystem”, namely the tree. After a brief explanation of the territorial protection tasks carried out by the Forestry Carabinieri, the children explored the functions of trees and forests, starting from the basic functions of carbon dioxide fixation and oxygen production, temperature regulation, soil protection, habitat for various animals, to social functions, namely as a natural resource for humans, beneficial for their health. Only by knowing how much a tree benefits us and how valuable it all is to our lives, can we learn to respect and protect it. More than 250 children of various ages (from babies to middle school), from 5 comprehensive schools in both provinces, discussed this issue. Some plant their own small trees.
Each Institute receives one plant to plant and georeference it, thereby contributing to the creation of a large, nationally distributed forest. The Municipality of Magenta has opened a surface of almost 2000 m2, which will allow the soil to recover its permeability.
