Drivers and pedestrians be careful!
The German Weather Service warns: Black ice and snow complicate the start of the week in many places. We’ll explain where you should pay special attention.

Bad and slippery weather is expected

Since Sunday afternoon, the German Weather Service (DWD) has indicated that snowfall and freezing rain could make roads and sidewalks slippery in some places from the afternoon and evening. This will probably be especially critical from the Saarland and Palatinate through Swabia to Lower Bavaria, where precipitation turns to rain quite quickly. “It then fell to the frozen ground, so it became glassy in places.”explained DWD. Due to the freezing weather in the last few days, parts of the ground were frozen to a depth of around 15 centimeters.

In the southern regions of the Palatinate and the Black Forest, people have been preparing for black ice since the afternoon. Late in the evening and Monday evening, severe and slippery weather is possible in southern Bavaria and Upper Swabia as well as in southeastern Bavaria until Monday morning.

Special care is required on the roads in the afternoon and evening, but also during Monday rush hour. In addition to black ice, a thin blanket of snow of around one to three centimeters east of the Hamburg-Erfurt-Stuttgart line is likely to cause problems for drivers. Snow could reach five centimeters in the mountains and in eastern Bavaria.
