Sarah El Haïry, High Commissioner for Children, announced that she wants to establish a Victims’ Council, which would deal with all violence against children, “as early as 2026”, in an interview published on the website Figaro. Former Prime Minister François Bayrou in May advocated the creation of a “independent authority” on violence against children, including scientific councils and victims’ councils following the Le Scouarnec trial and the Bétharram affair.
“In recent months, the High Commission has interacted with various victim groups, associations and committed figures, in particular regarding the cases of Le Scouarnec, Bétharram, Saint Stanislas de Nantes and Saint Dominique de Neuilly”recalls Sarah El Hairy. “We must welcome the words of adults who experienced violence in their childhood”he believes.
If the Commission on Sexual Violence Against Children (Ciivise) “work on sexual violence and incest”THAT “The victims council is a separate body”he added. “It will examine all violence against children, including educational and institutional violence, but also cyberbullying, and will also take inspiration from what is being done to survivors internationally”explained Sarah El Haïry.
“What the victims learn through this ordeal will help us better protect the children of today and the future.”he assured.
