“The Italian language is an instrument of peace and economic growth” – Il Tempo

Rome, November 18 – (Adnkronos) – “We want Italian to also be the language of economic growth. Italy is an industrial country, many of the countries we interact with are industrial countries, many developing countries want to know our knowledge, but they have the raw materials, so useful agreements can be made for both”. This was conveyed by Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in his speech at the first conference on Italophony which took place at Villa Madama.

The Italophony community “must really become an active tool, of course it is not just a cultural tool, but more than that, it is a way to maintain ties of friendship”, continued Tajani, according to him “in the document that we will approve – and this is the first time that we have all made this type of choice together – there will be no obstacles, there will be no economic commitments, this is a choice of freedom therefore the path is open to all countries that want to be part of it”.

According to Farnesina’s chairman, Italian should also be “an instrument, especially for us, of peace. At a time when there is often talk about building walls, the Italian-speaking community has instead become a new way to build bridges”. For Tajani, “today we are not just holding a conference to say some things, this is not just a one-off, this is the beginning of a new season. Today we inaugurate the birth of an international community” made up of “everyone who speaks, everyone who loves, everyone who knows and also those who want to learn Italian. So this is a very important day for all of us”.
