Three minors were convicted in June 2024 of the anti-Semitic rape of a 12-year-old Jewish girl in Courbevoie, in Hauts-de-Seine: one of them, retried on Tuesday, November 18 behind closed doors, had his prison sentence reduced, reports the Versailles Court of Appeal, confirming information from Paris.
Aged 13 at the time of the incident, he appealed after being sentenced to nine years in prison by the Nanterre juvenile court for the gang rape of a 15-year-old minor on religious grounds.
“The court considers the entire case as provided for in the law: the facts, the seriousness of the case, but also the personality of the minor and the need to prepare for future reintegration”estimated his lawyer Melody Blanc. He described his sentence, reduced to seven years in prison, as “fair, proportional and in accordance with legal principles”.
Contacted by Agence France-Presse, Muriel Ouaknine-Melki, who represents the young victim along with Oudy Bloch, underlined “courage to (theirs) customer “. “The most important thing is that he succeeded in bringing his attackers to justice and two of them were jailed.”he added.
Unanimous condemnation of the political class
In this case, two other minors were found guilty in the first degree. One of them, of the same age, was sentenced to seven years in prison, while the other, who could not be sentenced to prison due to his young age at the time of the incident (12 years 10 months), has received educational measures with mandatory treatment and placement at home. The two teenagers did not appeal.
During the examination, the young victim explained to police that he was treated that way “Dirty Jew”humiliated and beaten by her attackers before being raped several times in an abandoned place in Courbevoie, west of Paris. This crime deeply shocked the Jewish community and drew condemnation from political circles. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, condemned this “the scourge of anti-Semitism”.
Between January and May 2025, 504 anti-Semitic acts were recorded in France, according to the Interior Ministry, a decrease of 24% in one year, but more than double compared to the same period in 2023.
