The trial of Mark Antony Samson, who admitted murdering his ex-girlfriend, began before a judge at the Third Court of Assizes Ilaria Sulamurdered last March in an apartment in via Homs, in the Africa neighborhood, with three stab wounds to the neck and left in a suitcase at the bottom of a cliff in the Capranica Prenestina area.
That accusation
In view of all the elements that emerged during the investigation, the Capitoline prosecutors, coordinated by deputy prosecutor Giuseppe Cascini, who denied charges of voluntary manslaughter with premeditated circumstances, in addition to futile motives and emotional connection with the victim and the concealment of the body, requested and obtained an immediate decision.
The process
The defendant together with the victim’s parents, brother and friends appeared in the courtroom in Piazzale Clodio carrying a photo of the murdered student and the words “Justice for Ilaria”. “Either she comes back with me or I kill her”, was one of the messages found by investigators on the young man’s cell phone and from there emerged the ‘plan’ to kill the woman.
In the order authorizing the arrest last April and ordering careful detention in prison, investigating judge Antonella Minunni had underlined how “striking was her strong attitude of restraint and clarity, especially in the phase following Ilaria’s murder.
Although he had said several times that he could not live without Ilaria and could not imagine life without her, after brutally killing her and getting rid of the girl’s body, he managed to return to normalcy immediately.” The position of Samson’s mother, accused of involvement in hiding the corpse aggravated by teleological connection, was instead removed and on November 28 the investigating judge had to express his opinion on the request for a two-year plea bargain.
