The 150 employees at Oettinger in Braunschweig are worried about their future. Negotiations on social plans stalled. Now an instance is active.

The Oettinger brewery in Braunschweig closes at the end of this year, but there is a dispute over the future of its around 150 employees. Negotiations on the social plan have stalled, now the labor court must help, reports “Braunschweiger Zeitung”.

On December 3, the court will decide whether a conciliation board will be formed. Oettinger himself has submitted a related application. The committee will consist of representatives from both parties, with a neutral chair if necessary. For example, employment judges. This means the failed talks could resume in December.

The workers’ mood was tense. Works council leader Marko Urban accused the company of not providing adequate information to its employees: “We feel completely cheated.” Of the 150 employees, only about nine will remain at Oettinger after the closing.

Hopes of taking over the location have not been fulfilled. As stated in the report, Paulaner, among others, is in discussions. According to Oettinger, there are interested parties, but there has been no concrete offer that includes labor.
