This is a rare and amazing phenomenon to observe. The northern lights occur in France at night from Tuesday to Wednesday. In some places they are visible to the naked eye. It is remarkable that this phenomenon can be observed so far from the poles without long-term exposure to optical devices. However, using such a tool makes it possible to bring out the colors more. They seem less clear without it.
The Météo-villes website explains that “significant solar activity has been occurring for several days and a major eruption occurred on the morning of Tuesday, November 11.” “This eruption resulted in a high-velocity coronal mass ejection (CME). This eruption finally reached Earth on the night of Tuesday 11 November to Wednesday 12 November 2025, causing a geomagnetic storm and the northern lights visible at unusual latitudes. » This is the color of the sky in parts of Île-de-France and the Oise between 03.00 and 05.30.
The pink-red sky was also visible from Normandy and as far as Indre, further south.
The following night could also see the Northern Lights reaching France. “You should look north, if possible in an area with little or no light pollution,” advises Météo-villes.
Under clear skies and/or without visual pollution, last night’s aurora was clearly visible in Lorraine and in the mountains, in the Alps.
🌌 Last night, the Northern Lights were visible in France, especially between 3am and 5am, here in Chamonix. They follow powerful solar flares. Others will be possible the following evening (via @skaping) pic.twitter.com/MFNkbnrblI

Elsewhere in the world, auroras have been observed, among others, in Iowa, the northern United States, near the Great Lakes, as well as in Bavaria, Germany.

Due to the conditions necessary for good observations (clear skies and low light pollution), large cities are not suitable terrain. So they had to stay away from the next night’s show.
