Martiño Ramos Soto, the Ourense teacher convicted of sexually abusing a student for years, fled Spain last July, shortly before the Supreme Court made his 13-year prison sentence final. Police investigations have revealed that Ramos is currently taking refuge in Cuba, a country with which Spain does not have an extradition agreement, having passed through Portugal, Brazil and Peru during his escape. In that escape, Ramos used his passport, taking advantage of the fact that when he left Spain a search and arrest warrant had not yet been issued against him.

According to police sources, the fugitive pedophile – who this Monday was included by the National Police in the list of the 10 most wanted criminals – entered Portugal by land and, from there, flew to Brazil. Once there, he took another flight to Peru and, from this country, traveled to Havana. The same sources underline that Spain is in contact with the Cuban authorities to obtain the surrender of the pedophile to Spanish justice, although they admit that for now he has not been detained there. The National Police asked its colleagues in the Caribbean country to exercise extreme surveillance on him during the processing of the case, to prevent him from escaping again.

Ramos’ presence on the Caribbean island became public in early August, just 12 days after his firm conviction by the Supreme Court. It was then that he began posting photos on an account on the social network Instagram that he had opened under the name Martín Soto (his Spanishized name and his maternal surname). In the profile photo, which has remained open all this time, the escaped rapist can be recognized perfectly. According to his publications, in the four months that the police searched for him, he worked as a photographer on the Caribbean island, moving between art galleries and modeling shows.
