Two young adults explore a challenging hiking trail in the Alps. They planned their route with TikTok – and got into trouble.

On Saturday evening, mountain rescue services rescued two young adults from the snow-covered Allgäu Alps who said they had planned their challenging tour using TikTok. At an altitude of around 2,000 meters they were unable to advance or retreat in the snow-covered terrain and had to contact emergency services.

The two climbers were flown to the valley by a rescue helicopter on Saturday evening. They had been trying to complete the birthday route to Schrecksee – a particularly challenging route near the border with Austria.

Mountain rescue services indicate that winter conditions currently occur at an altitude of around 1,600 meters. Such tours should only be undertaken by experienced mountain climbers at this time of year.

For climbers who are inexperienced and do not have adequate equipment, the cost of the trip can also be expensive. Mountain rescuers insist that the costs of such rescue operations must be borne by those affected – unless they have appropriate insurance.
