Due to cold and wet conditions at night, the German Weather Service (DWD) warned of slippery conditions in the mountains and foothills of the Alps as well as in the southern and central low mountains. It can also be slippery in the western low mountains and in the Harz Mountains. According to DWD, new snowfall may occur at higher elevations over the next afternoon and evening.
“Apart from the Alps, snow fell mainly in the low mountains,” said a DWD meteorologist. According to DWD, due to arctic air from the northwest, it will likely remain cold and wet and continue to snow in the mountains. However, snow or sleet is also expected in Berlin and Brandenburg during the week.
In the Erzgebirge, winter service is deployed at night. When temperatures drop below zero, snow shovels clear mud from roads above 600 meters. There’s already a traffic jam here. In Sauerland it is already snowing above the 500 meter line. This week also started with snow in Bavaria, not only in the Alps but also in the Allgäu.
