“Our goal is (…) to reduce” France’s deficit, however, could worsen in 2026, the minister warned. A day after the debate in the Assembly broke down on the draft social security budget, Minister of Labor and Solidarity Jean-Pierre Farandou said he “worried about the deficit” public, estimates the amount could reach 24 billion euros by 2026, in an interview with Paris published Thursday 13 November.

At this stage “We lost so much savings that we had a hard time choosing”said the former SNCF president. He explained that the government wanted to reduce the deficit “from 23 to 17 billion euros”but that“today, according to our latest calculations, we could reach 24 billion”. Figures also given previously by the general rapporteur of the Social Affairs Committee in the Assembly, Thibault Bazin (LR): if the draft Social Security budget is adopted in its modified version by the Assembly, “we will move away from a deficit of 17.5 billion euros” originally planned by the government, it became a deficit “around 24.3 billion euros”has encrypted the selected ones.

The Social Security budget bill will be examined by the Senate starting next week, in its amended version by the Assembly. “When the final copy arrives in the Assembly in December, everyone must step up to each other”added Jean-Pierre Farandou, calling out “responsibility of all members of parliament”.
