The United States accused Iran this Friday of hatching a plot to assassinate the Israeli ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz Neiger. As revealed by a senior US official to several national media, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s plan to attack the diplomat began late last year, but “the operation has been contained and currently no threat exists”, they explained anonymously. The operation that foiled the assassination attempt took place before the summer.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry pledged Friday to thank the Mexican security services for dismantling “a terrorist network directed from Iran.”
Official Mexican sources declined to comment on the matter.
The United States denounces that Iranian authorities have a vast network abroad, and especially in Latin America, ready to attack American and Israeli targets.
“This is just the latest in a long history of assassination attempts by Iran around the world against diplomats, journalists, dissidents and anyone who disagrees with the regime. It is something that should be deeply concerning to all countries where there is an Iranian presence,” the US official said.
