That The US Senate has passed a bill to end the longest government shutdown in the country’s history – 41 days – which allows the government to be financed until the end of January. After passing in the Senate, where 60 people supported the measure, while 40 voted against it, the legislation must now go to the House.
House Speaker, Republican Mike Johnson, told deputies that a vote on a spending package could come as early as tomorrow, which would ensure government funding through Jan. 31, and at the same time guarantee funding for food stamps, veterans and military construction programs for the entire fiscal year.
The Republican leadership is confident that they have the votes to pass the package, with President Trump, who wants to reopen the government as soon as possible, able to exert pressure on any resistance from the right, while a group of centrist Democrats, as is the case in the Senate, could meet with Republicans to support the measure, thereby breaking the direction of party leaders.
