A total of 86.7% of high schools, equivalent to 2,322 public schools in absolute terms, participated in the Ministry of Education and Achievement’s survey on initiatives to combat violence against women.
The survey, which took place between 15 and 29 May 2025, involved secondary schools across the country and confirmed the school world’s attention to issues of equality, respect and preventing violence against women. Nearly 97%, as required by the new Civic Education Teaching Guidelines, have initiated activities aimed at increasing students’ awareness of respect for women and relationship education. This survey also confirms the increasing sensitivity of the younger generation to these issues. The projects were implemented during class hours (87.4%), and as extracurricular initiatives (12.6%), through workshops, seminars, discussion groups, art performances and awareness campaigns. 47.4% of schools participating in the survey stated that they also had good practices to report. In 68.5% of institutions there was greater attention to relational behavior, more conscious use of language, and a reduction in violent episodes. intimidation or gender violence.
The educational pathway launched as an implementation of the new Guidelines for teaching citizenship education has contributed to fostering a more inclusive, respectful and aware school environment. Therefore, this school establishes itself as an educational and cultural center that is fundamental in teaching respect and relationships and in fighting violence against women.
