One of Germany’s most important media awards was presented on Thursday evening at the Bavarian Film Studios near Munich: Bambi. In addition to the award winners, a number of stars and starlets from the German entertainment industry were also invited.

Including Thomas Gottschalk who came to the event with his wife Karina Mroß. During the awards ceremony, the entertainer was given a special task: he was supposed to present the “Legend” award to pop icon Cher and give her a speech.

The two have known each other for years, as the singer appeared on Gottschalk’s previous show, “Wetten, dass…?” several times. as a guest. But their latest meeting on the Bambi stage caused a stir. The 75 year old man seemed shocked by his appearance. “Oh, it’s my turn,” he asked on camera, looking confused.

Then Gottschalk began to speak incoherently, repeatedly getting confused, speaking very slowly and spouting unintelligible anecdotes. His statement that Cher was “the only woman I take seriously in my life” even earned him boos from the audience.

He barely paid attention to the singer himself and even introduced himself to Cher before finally asking her if she wanted to say something herself. Gottschalk’s behavior upset many viewers. Comments on the X short message service also increased.

“An embarrassing TV moment for Thomas Gottschalk. He should retire,” demanded one user. “Gottschalk no longer deserves to be on stage,” said another. One agreed: “You should never put a microphone in his hand again.” “Very confusing” or “very unpleasant” can also be read.

Some people thought the 75-year-old man had gone crazy and tried to find an explanation for it. “Is Gottschalk sick? He’s so weird,” wrote one viewer on X. “What’s wrong with him? Is he drunk or on drugs?” is one of many similar assumptions.
