Several thousand football fans from across Germany followed the call of “Fan Scenes of Germany” and demonstrated in Leipzig against tighter security measures at stadiums.
Stadium security: Protests were seen and heard at the DFB hotel
Under the motto “Football is safe! No more populism – yes, fan culture!” The protest was aimed at plans by the Interior Ministers’ Conference (IMK), which fans fear will take tougher action in the arena in the future.
Supporters gathered in the morning at Willy-Brandt-Platz in front of the main train station. Police are on the scene with a large force including helicopters. The German national team’s decisive World Cup qualifying match against Slovakia will take place in Leipzig on Monday (20:45/ZDF). The team hotel (Westin) was close to the start of the demo. Police said there were around 8,000 participants, organizers said there were 20,000 fans. The demonstration ended at around 14.30. after the last rally.
The German national team has had a difficult time in Luxembourg for a long time. Only two goals from Woltemade brought the team to victory. Qualifying is now very close.

Open criticism from fans of the politician’s approach
National fan networks, including the Unser Kurve association and the Alliance of Active Football Fans, sharply criticized the actions of the “Federal State Open Working Group” (BLoAG) in a statement before the demonstration. In recent months, at the invitation of the IMK, representatives from politics, the police, the German Football Association (DFB), the German Football League (DFL) and the Fan Project Coordination Office (KOS) have discussed security at football stadiums in BLoAG.

Based on previous discussions, the DFB and DFL’s plans include strengthening club security officers and event managers in terms of personnel and structure, among other things. In addition, a central body for legal and technical supervision in connection with the stadium ban will be established at the association. The goal of the DFB and DFL is to maintain a high level of security at the stadiums, reduce police deployment hours and preserve Germany’s unique fan culture.

Ban on stadiums and personalized tickets in the presence of fans
Politicians and police have recently frequently criticized what they see as inconsistent enforcement of the stadium ban. According to media reports, personalized tickets and guidelines for tightening stadium bans will be discussed by domestic politicians. The next IMK meeting is scheduled for early December in Bremen.
