The tiny Caribbean nation of Curaçao has become the smallest country ever to qualify for a soccer World Cup. The assist came after a 0-0 draw against Jamaica in Kingston. Curaçao, with a population of just 156,000, survived Jamaica’s onslaught in the second half, achieving the draw needed to qualify for the World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Haiti also qualified for the world championships – 52 years after its last appearance – after beating Nicaragua 2-0. Panama will also appear in the World Cup after winning 3-0 against El Salvador.
