Top football in Bremen – but not at the Weser Stadium!
While Werder’s professionals fight for points in Leipzig on Sunday (15:30, DAZN), the Icon League comes to the Bremen ÖVB Arena an hour and a half later.
Nearly 6,500 fans in the minor leagues can look forward to some stars. At the forefront: Icon League co-founder and DFB legend Toni Kroos (35). The long-time Real star will lace up his football boots again in Bremen and support the Berlin Underdogs squad which includes Hertha professional Fabian Reese and rapper Ski Aggu.
“Because he is better than everyone else”: A hymn of praise for Woltemade’s time at Werder
And Kroos has another Real legend with him: Marcelo (37) will also come to the nearly sold-out arena.
Former Werder fan Kroos plays at Bremen
Kroos to BILD: “I can’t wait to come to Bremen and, most importantly, play with Marcelo again. Of course, I associate Bremen with memories of my youth as a Werder fan. The double in the 2003/04 season with a diamond of champions in midfield, led by Johan Micoud…”
Toni Kroos was a Werder fan as a child
But before that, Kroos will receive a great honor. He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit after Philipp Lahm and Gerald Asamoah. The reason for the award was his foundation which supports seriously ill children.
As well as the Real legends, mega-influencers Elias Nerich, Anton “ViscaBarca” Rinas and Kroos’ brother Felix also started. Additionally, Reese should not miss how Kroos and Marcelo did wonders for Berlin Underdogs.
“We are very happy to have the best German footballer of all time and a Brazilian magician in our team. Sunday Berlin Underdogs will be favorites for the first time,” said the Hertha star.
For Berliners, it’s about qualifying for the Round of 6 in Vienna (December 14). No team has yet qualified for the final tournament, but with Kroos and Marcelo, Reese et al. have two aces up their sleeve.
Marcelo (37/l.) will also play in Bremen on Sunday
A total of seven matches will be played on the 12th and penultimate matchday of the season. Berlin Underdogs are in second place. They could take a big step towards Vienna with wins against The Pack FC of second division record scorer Simon Terrodde and commentary legend Wolff-Christoph Fuss.
More than 6,500 fans will watch the Icon League live on Sunday
