In the dispute over closing the gap on Autobahn 1 in Eiffel The Federal Administrative Court wishes to announce its decision today (3 p.m.). The Rheinland-Pfalz regional association of environmental protection associations BUND has filed a lawsuit against the state mobility agency’s plans from 2023 (ref.: BVerwG 9 A 17.25). Environmentalists see violations of area and species protection, faulty drainage planning, and inadequate climate protection.

A1 is one of the longest Highway German. It stretches from the Baltic Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein via Hamburg, Bremen and Cologne via the Eifel to Saarbrücken – although intermittently. It currently ends in the north near Blankenheim in North Rhine-Westphalia and in the south near Kelberg, leaving a gap 25 kilometers long. The process concerns the Adenau-Kelberg section.

The planning was almost completed in the summer of 2021. Then, following the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley, the review of the drainage plan for the expansion was rescheduled. Therefore, higher rainfall values were used as a baseline and larger rain retention ponds were planned.
