Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller trusts his goalkeeper Michael Zetterer to make the jump to the national team. The 30 year old player has performed convincingly since being promoted to number one.
Eintracht Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller has invited goalkeeper Michael Zetterer to discuss being a candidate for the German national football team. “If you look at how stable he plays, how quickly he gets used to the new environment, plus his performance over the last few years, then he is clearly a candidate for the national team,” said Toppmöller before Saturday’s away game at 1. FC Köln.
Zetterer moved from Werder Bremen to Frankfurt in the summer after Kevin Trapp left for FC Paris. Originally slated as Kauã Santos’ replacement, the Munich native moved up to number one after several errors by the Brazilian. So far this season, Zetterer has played eleven games for SGE in the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and Champions League.
As before in Bremen, the 30 year old player showed consistent performances. He has conceded just one goal in the last three league games. So far not enough national coach Julian Nagelsmann has been nominated. Zetterer played one international match for Germany U21 in 2016. In the 0–1 defeat against Poland he was on the pitch alongside Leroy Sané.
