Traffic violations: Clemens in court for traffic violations?

Minister of Culture of Saxony Conrad Clemens (CDU) may have to appear in court as a speeding offender in early January. Public prosecutor Görlitz wants the legal consequences of his traffic violations to be clarified by September 2023. The Weißwasser district court announced that he had requested that the main trial be held. To do this, an expert report will be obtained “on the objective elements of the crime and the local conditions at the crime scene”. This issue must be fully clarified first. “Radio Lausitz” was first reported.

Clemens was caught traveling at 81 km/h in zone 30

In 2023, Clemens received a two-month driving ban and fine from the federal government in his previous positions as Secretary of State and representative of the Free State of Saxony. He was caught speeding at 81 kilometers per hour in zone 30 in Krauschwitz in East Saxony – at the residence of a senior citizen. Clemens admitted to driving too fast and called it a mistake.

The case eventually became a criminal case. The court accused Clemens of racing a prohibited motor vehicle. Clemens’ attorney rejected this. The court then recommended stopping the trial if Clemens paid 10,000 euros, took part in a traffic development seminar and gave traffic lessons to students. The public prosecutor did not accept the offer.

In May, the Saxon state parliament revoked Clemens’ immunity. This paves the way for criminal proceedings.
