A train coming from the Czech Republic landed at the railway station in Johanngeorgenstadt (Erzgebirge) on the so-called sand track – a special track used to slow down the train. As announced by the Federal Police Inspectorate Klingenthal, the 75-year-old Czech train driver ignored a stop signal to enter the station. There were two passengers on board the train, but neither was injured. The train was en route from Karlsbad to Johanngeorgenstadt.
Like Eckard Fiedler, spokesman Federal Police in Klingenthal, upon request, the button for entering the station is not yet set. That’s why the train doesn’t stop at the platform, but ends up at the end of the track with the sand dunes. The carriage jumped off the track and was lifted back onto the track platform on Sunday. The railway line from Potůčky in the Czech Republic to Johanngeorgenstadt remains closed, but the line on the German side to Zwickau does not. “The train is running normally.”
Federal police are now investigating the dangerous disruption to train traffic.
