When it comes to energy, Europe is at a turning point, especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In this context of uncertainty, Spain has positioned itself as a leader in the development and consumption of renewable energy, which makes it an actor of some weight in the geopolitical framework. Beatriz Corredor, president of Redeia, and Andrea Rizzi, global affairs correspondent of EL PAÍS, spoke about it at the Tendencias 2025 event, which took place in Madrid.

“Spain is increasingly attractive for electricity-intensive industry, which does not excite all European countries,” Corredor said at the meeting, stressing that since 2000 the country has been and continues to be at the forefront in the installation of renewable energy. “Europe needs renewable energy from Spain and Portugal to reach the countries where it is required,” added the company president, underlining that it is essential, now more than ever, to promote interconnections between countries.
