Post-acquittal plans in the trial surrounding the death of student Hanna from Aschau NDR and SWR a documentary series about the case. The three-part format will be published in ARD’s media library in late January 2026, NDR announced on the day of the ruling.

The “Spiegel TV” production “uses exclusive interviews and extensive journalistic research to explore a case that changed the lives of two young people forever.” In addition to questions about the investigation, there are also questions regarding the families of the young man and student, who have now been acquitted of murder charges: “One family lost their daughter, another family experienced how their son was declared the perpetrator in public opinion and in court.”

Filmmaker Meike Pommer has researched the case for more than two years and sensitively portrayed “this true crime case in all its aspects,” according to the statement. The edits are in NDR and SWR.

Students found dead in river after a night of partying

Hanna was found dead in the Prien River on the evening of October 3 2022 after a night of partying at the Aschau “Eiskeller” disco with multiple injuries. Several weeks later, the young man was arrested and later charged.

In March 2024, the regional court Traunstein sentenced him to nine years in prison for murder. However, the Federal Court overturned the ruling due to procedural errors, so the case was reopened at the end of September – and now has a completely different result.
