Trump recommends Republican vote to release Epstein files

The US President announced a 180 degree turnaround on Monday evening. After months of infighting and massive pressure from his own party, he is now calling on Republicans in the House of Representatives to vote for publication of the Epstein files.

US President Donald Trump, under pressure, recommended that members of his Republican Party vote in the House of Representatives to make public the case files of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It’s time to release the files “because we have nothing to hide,” the Republican wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Until now, Trump has firmly opposed disclosing the investigation files on this case. The opposition Democratic Party, but also some Republicans who support Trump, have been pushing for this for months.

What is the Epstein case about?

Influential American multimillionaire Epstein ran a years-long abuse network that victimized dozens of young women and minors. He also committed suicide against his victims. Following his arrest and conviction as a felon, the New York financier died in his prison cell in 2019 at the age of 66. The autopsy report listed suicide as the cause of death.

Epstein’s sudden death and extensive contacts with American high society sparked speculation about the possible involvement of influential circles. Before his arrest, celebrities and billionaires were in and out of his home – Trump also spent time with Epstein, as several party videos show. There are many files regarding this case, of which only excerpts are known so far.

During the election campaign, Trump promised to fully disclose the Epstein file. However, as these promises have not been kept since he took office in January, pressure on the president has increased.

If the House of Representatives approves the disclosure of the information, then the other chamber of the US Congress, namely the Senate, must approve it. And the US President has to sign them all. It’s unclear whether this will happen.
