United States President Donald Trump has signed a law ending the longest-running government shutdown American history, which lasted 43 days. The measure, approved by Congress with bipartisan support from eight Democrats, confirms government funding through Jan. 30 and does not provide for an extension of health care subsidies tied to the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). Trump thanked Democrats who helped break the deadlock and promised “this will never happen again.” With reopening, a gradual return to normalcy is expected: air traffic controllers will return and traffic restrictions will be removed at major US airports; Food stamp payments will also resume for about 42 million Americans.
