US President Donald Trump began his second term in January with an approval rating of 47 percent. According to a survey published on Tuesday by Reuters/Ipsos, only 38 percent of Americans are currently satisfied with their jobs.
His current rating is close to his first-term low of 33 percent and that of his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, whose approval rating has fallen to 35 percent.
Trump has now decided to release the files of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Democrats in particular have long pushed for such publication – Trump has so far resisted it.

Dissatisfaction with economic policies and the Epstein investigation
The reason is dissatisfaction with the handling of living expenses and the investigation into the case of the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
- As a result, 26 percent of Americans still believe that Trump is able to manage living costs well.
- 20 percent approved of his handling of the Epstein case. 70 percent of respondents believe the government is hiding information about Epstein’s clients.
This online survey surveyed 1,017 US adults nationwide. The statistical margin of error is about three percentage points. The four-day survey runs through Monday.
The pressure on Trump from within his party is now too great in the Epstein case – extraordinary because Republicans are blindly following him, says Claudia Bates in Washington.

Republican support for Trump appears to be weakening
The poll results come at a time when Trump’s support for the Republican Party appears to be weakening. The US Senate approves legislation that would force disclosure of the Epstein files.
Shortly before, the House of Representatives had approved the plan with a majority vote after Trump reversed course and recommended his party colleagues vote on the plan. The bill will now be forwarded to the President.
