After the death of a woman and her two children from Hamburg, the father is now also detained due to possible poisoning Istanbul dead. The head of the Istanbul Health Directorate, Abdullah Emre Güner, announced this to X. He expressed his condolences to his relatives. According to media reports, food poisoning or pest control chemical poisoning is suspected. An official report regarding the cause of his death is still pending.
Investigators have previously arrested several people. According to state news agency Anadolu, they were two hotel employees and one person who carried out pest control at the family hotel. Therefore, eleven suspects were detained, eight of whom had to be brought before a judge. Four street food sellers were detained on Friday. Three other suspects were later arrested, including a hotel manager. A baker from nearby hotels was also arrested.
The mother and her two children who were on holiday in Istanbul died last week. The family’s father was hospitalized.
Two other tourists also experienced symptoms of poisoning
The family traveled to Istanbul more than a week ago. According to media reports, one day the family had lunch together. Therefore, the family consumes various street food dishes there. The next day, according to media reports, the family members were initially taken to hospital with suspected food poisoning due to nausea and vomiting. They were then taken to hospital again before the child and mother died. They have been buried.
Since the case became known, two other tourists from the same hotel have been treated for symptoms of poisoning. Authorities then closed a shop in the Besiktas district indefinitely. In view of the large number of casualties, the hotel has now been evacuated and also sealed. One room had been disinfected with chemicals to combat pests, he said.
