Children from Hamburg die in Istanbul – parents struggle to survive

A family from Hamburg travels to Istanbul. But the holiday ended in tragedy: two children died and the parents struggled to survive in the intensive care unit.
Two children aged three and six died of suspected food poisoning in Istanbul. According to media reports, the family comes from Hamburg. Her parents are in the intensive care unit and fighting for their lives.
At the request of the dpa news agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the two affected children were German citizens. The Consulate General in Istanbul is willing to provide consular support to the affected families.
Istanbul’s deputy health director, Abdullah Emre Güner, told X that the siblings were taken to hospital on Tuesday and, despite great efforts, could not be saved.
The family visited the Turkish metropolis and spent the night in a hotel in the old town. According to state news agency Anadolu, the family arrived on Sunday and, according to investigations, ate shellfish from street vendors and at restaurants on Monday.
On Tuesday, the family member was hospitalized for vomiting and nausea and initially released. The mother and daughter were later found dead in the hotel and rescue workers were called. The children were taken to hospital and could not be saved there. The responsible authorities opened an investigation to clarify the exact cause of his death.
