Ukraine live directions: Kiev: Ukraine ready for talks on new US plan to end the war

Ukraine says it has received a draft plan to end the war with Russia from the US government and is ready to discuss it. The Ukrainian government is ready to cooperate constructively with the US government to “ensure a dignified end to the war.”President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office said Thursday evening. Zelensky wants to speak to US President Donald Trump about the proposal “in the coming days”.

On Wednesday it became known that America has developed a new plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, which has been going on for almost four years. Kiev said the initiative envisaged the surrender of Russian-controlled territory, including the Crimean Peninsula, as well as a significant reduction in the size of the Ukrainian army and Ukraine’s rejection of any long-range weapons. US media previously reported alleged secret talks between Moscow and Washington.

Kiev’s European allies reacted cautiously to the latest US initiative, which appears to greatly benefit Russian interests. Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) and EU Foreign Representative Kaja Kallas insisted that Ukraine and Europe take part in possible negotiations. Chancellor Thorsten Frei (CDU) called the news about the US proposal “quite disturbing”.
