They still exist, a hardline foreign policy group in the Republican Party. And some argue that their intervention in Ukraine is also a sign of weakness for US President Donald Trump. A particularly noteworthy moment was when several Republican senators announced Trump’s 28-point plan as a Russian wish list: just before US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s departure for Geneva. Rubio negotiated there on Sunday with representatives from the EU and Ukraine regarding this plan. The agreement stipulated that Ukraine cede Crimea, Donbass, Luhansk and parts of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, limiting its military size and permanently abandoning the goal of NATO membership.
