ROME (ITALPRESS) – The United Nations Security Council has approved US President Donald Trump’s plan to end the war in Gaza, promising “a path to a Palestinian state”. Thirteen countries voted in favor, no countries voted against and two countries – Russia and China – abstained. The proposal was adopted as Security Council Resolution 2803. US President Donald Trump welcomed the UN Security Council’s decision to approve his plan for the Gaza Strip. “Congratulations to the world on its extraordinary recognition and support of the Peace Council, which will be chaired by me and will include the world’s strongest and most respected leaders,” Trump wrote in Truth. “This will go down in history as one of the greatest recognitions in UN history and will lead to further peace throughout the world. This is a truly historic moment. Council members and many other exciting announcements will be made in the coming weeks,” he added.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the Security Council’s approval of the US plan in Gaza, calling it “an important step towards establishing a ceasefire” and urging all parties “to respect its terms”. Guterres said that “diplomatic momentum must now be translated into urgent and necessary concrete action on the ground.” According to Guterres, “The UN is committed to expanding humanitarian assistance and leading efforts to advance the next phase of the ceasefire, which will lead to a political process to achieve a two-state solution.”
