They don’t hesitate to say it in words: “It’s a way of annoying, of hurting someone”; “It’s when a group of people attack, because they feel like it, against someone who is more vulnerable.” The pupils of the Engeba school, in Valencia, do not look the other way when they detect behavior compatible with bullying. Him bullying It is a problem that affects one in four students in Spain, according to the Spanish Association for the Prevention of School Bullying (AEPAE). And here, between mathematics or history lessons and recess, they have decided to teach boys and girls to pay attention and act when someone needs it thanks to an initiative, called Stop bullying. Everything at once, in which Valencia CF and its foundation tried to raise awareness in more than 900 schools throughout the Valencian Community. The Engeba project was the winner. And the success is evident in the podcast testimonials.
“Prevention is fundamental”, summarizes the director of the centre, Rebeca Naves, in this first episode of the third season of LALIGA VS. “The important thing is that children know that they can tell what happens and that they will be taken seriously.”
At the Engeba school they created a figure, that of the so-called “observant students”, always attentive to any sign of exclusion or mistreatment. “We watch our classmates, and if something happens, we let the teachers know,” says Sandy, a 3rd year ESO student.
The data demonstrates the scale of the problem; According to the AEPAE, Spain occupies first place classification world of school bullying and cyberbullying, with over 300,000 cases registered every year. “We use the power of sport as a spokesperson to educate respect and empathy,” summarizes Ana Carceller, coordinator of the initiative. Stop the bullying, guys, now.
The message against harassment also resonates in the Sports City of Paterna, among the youth players of Valencia CF. David Albelda, captain of Cadet A, son of the Ché legend, is very clear: “We must act against those who do this. I don’t understand how anyone can think that this is right”, he says that, as a leader on the pitch and in his team’s locker room, he prefers to set an example: “If the captain respects the rules, the others will too. A team only works if everyone is united”.
LALIGA’s commitment against hatred
LALIGA, on these dates which commemorate the World Day against School Violence and Bullying, announced that, with the support of the General Council of Psychology of Spain, it will collaborate with the Autonomous Communities to address this scourge. Through the LALIGA VS platform, he produced a video with the champion Carolina Marín which contains pedagogical material on how to face the challenge bullying and will be available to all schools. A fight in which LALIGA stars are also involved, who wanted to be part of the campaign video, such as Mikel Oyarzabal (Real Sociedad), José Luis Gayá (Valencia CF), Antony dos Santos (Real Betis) or Javi Puado (RCD Espanyol de Barcelona).
A day against harassment

A team leaves no one alone. With this motto, the boys and girls who accompanied the Valencia CF and Real Betis players from the locker rooms to the pitch took to the pitch in last Sunday’s twelfth matchday match. “We want to launch an appeal”, they say from LALIGA, “because in the face of this plague we cannot be simple observers. The power of the team is essential to support the victims of bullying”.
