Venezuelan, French citizen detained since June released

French citizen Camilo Castro, 41, detained in Venezuela since late June, has been released, President Emmanuel Macron announced. Castro, a yoga teacher living in Colombia, disappeared on June 26 at the Paraguachón border crossing, where he had gone to renew his visa. His family and Amnesty International they have reported that he is being detained by Venezuelan authorities. Amnesty also accused Caracas of carrying out “forced disappearances” following the re-election of Nicolás Maduro, using them to build a narrative about a “foreign conspiracy” and as a tool in international negotiations.
