The chimneys of the old Petroplus refinery in Petit-Couronne, on the outskirts of Rouen, have long since collapsed. The installation supplying kerosene to Paris airport closed permanently in spring 2013. But another smokestack will soon be erected there. It is at this site, built in the 1930s during the golden age of fossils, that Verso Energy’s first synthetic aviation fuel plant will begin operations.
The French pioneer of e-saf (synthetic fuels), the French industrialist is approaching the initial stages of a project called DEZIR (like Decarbonization in the Seine Eure and in the Rouen Industrial Zone). He had just begun the final design stages which he entrusted to the young Belgian engineering company Rely, created by Technip and John Cockerill. “ We will discuss the level of detail that allows us to calculate project costs and therefore set fuel sales prices for discussions with customers. », explains Antoine Huard, co-founder of Verso.
