This news is truly bittersweet. Not Zagadou anymore…
The unluckiest person in Stuttgart And Axel Zagadou (26) is out with another injury. The centre-back suffered the injury on Wednesday in the final training session before the Europa League clash against Go Ahead Eagles (9pm, RTL+). That’s confirmed VfB-Coach Sebastian Hoeneß (43) in the Netherlands.
When asked if there was any personnel news, the coach said: “Unfortunately, yes. Daxo is injured, he didn’t make the trip to Deventer and will be out. We hope it doesn’t take too long. It’s a significant muscle injury.”
Regarding the time off, Hoeneß said: “He won’t be able to start training again next week, I won’t be able to play that far. He won’t be available for us for now. It’s nothing to do with the knee, it’s just a muscle injury.”
A very bitter setback for the defense. The long-term patient has recently put up a strong fight and was on the pitch for a fantastic 179 minutes. After suffering two serious knee injuries in a row, he was only able to play 27 minutes last season.
Now he finally looks fit and impresses as a defensive leader on the field. Zagadou on his recent form: “I’m doing everything I can to stay healthy. I’ve been praying for these moments.”
The next injury occurred on Wednesday. Coach Hoeneß said: “We were on the verge where we felt he was stable. The games and training sessions also showed that. That’s why we hoped he would come through well. Of course, you don’t expect something like that to happen. It caught us off guard.”

Hoeneß continued: “It’s bittersweet for the kid because he was there straight away and could be a starter at a high level. It’s also bittersweet for us because we immediately had a player who could perform at the top league level. That had an impact on all of us.”
Now Zagadou must fight for his comeback once again. You can only hope that the poor guy with the injury ends up staying healthy for a long time.
