Violence against women: Breaking the silence, taking action | policy

I’m tired of the reality in Germany: every 68 seconds a woman becomes a victim of violence. We were raped, forced, beaten, strangled, killed. At home and in public. And if we are lucky, we “only” get snubbed. Not somewhere far away, but here with us.

Why me We write?

Because this can happen to every woman. It doesn’t matter how old he is. No matter how educated or how “well married”. Regardless of whether you were born here or immigrated.

I know this feeling. Listen to footsteps behind you. Lock between his fingers, ready to fight. Afraid of your own daughter. I know women who are so desperate that they say: Let him kill me, I can’t do it anymore.

I am bored. Sorry women make themselves small. That they were told not to act like that. That you don’t trust them. Rape, for example, can be called the safest crime to date. The chances of ending up in prison because of this are very low. If it happens in a “relationship”, then the result is zero.

But we would rather discuss gender asterisks and rainbow flags than what needs to be done to prevent the almost daily murder of women, for example a woman being killed because she is a woman.

Women are not a minority, nor a marginalized group. We cover more than half of the country. And we have the right to live safely like men.

BILD is the largest media in the country. Today we wield this power over a half of the population that often does not feel protected. In BILD, women report the violence they experience. You have the courage to no longer remain silent.

They are no longer victims. They are strong. Silence will only help the wrong person, namely the perpetrator.

It’s time to get loud. But this is not a women’s issue. Most good men have to be loud. You will get it. As a brother, friend, neighbor, colleague, father – look, get involved. We can only do this together.
